What's in our name?
Why "CrossWay"?
CrossWay is an unusual name formed from two simple words. The Cross
symbolizes how Jesus our Lord died as our substitute, bearing the guilt
of our sin. The Way (as in path or road) symbolizes how we live our
lives, our lifestyle and the course it takes.
CrossWay proclaims that our lifestyle is to be centered in the cross of
Christ. It proclaims that this lifestyle is the only way to receive true
life in God.
The CrossWay is not the way of doing good works or of keeping God's
commands. This lifestyle does produce good works and obedience, but it
relies on the Cross of Christ and not on anything we can do.
The CrossWay is the way of faith. Faith relies on Jesus as our substitute
to provide forgiveness of sins. Faith relies on His resurrection as the
basis for living a life pleasing to God. Faith relies on God's grace to
receive access to God and freedom from sin even though we do not deserve
these gifts. Are you living on the CrossWay?
Why "Assembly of God"?
The Greek word in the New Testament usually translated "church" actually
means "assembly", referring in the case of the church either to the
assembling together of the local church or God's view of the whole church
as one great assembly of those who love Him and trust in His Son. So
"Assembly of God" means the same as "Church of God".
Of course, the main reason we use this phrase in our name is because we
are affiliated with the "Assemblies of God", a fellowship of over 51
million believers in 204 nations.
We Believe 1. The Bible is God's inerrant word. 2. God is one Being subsisting as Three Persons (the Trinity). 3. Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man and having died as our
substitute has risen again bodily. 4. Salvation from sin is available to all as a free gift received only
through faith in Jesus. 5. The Holy Spirit dwells in everyone who believes in Jesus, enabling us
to live holy,
Christ-like lives. 6. Each believer should also be filled with the Holy Spirit (with the
evidence of speaking in tongues) to receive power to be witnesses of
Jesus. 7. God heals the sick today. 8. Jesus will soon return to reign. Only then will there be true world
peace. 9. Each person will stand before God and will receive either eternal
fellowship with Him or eternal punishment for sin.
